lands, read the lesson yesterday
morning at a special service for
Holland flood relief at the Ca
thedral of St. John the Divine.
Prior to a brief sermon on the
meaning of charity, the Very
Rev. James A. Pike, dean of the
cathedral, announced that the
Right Rev. Horace W. B.
Donegan, Protestant Episcopal
Bishop of New York, the dean,
canons and trustees of the ca
thedral were participating "as
much as possible" in the offer
ing for Holland flood relief and
urged "the greatest possible
contribution to this worthy
cause." Highlighting the spirit
of the service for the more than
500 celebrants were two former
Dutch families who attended
the service dressed in the tra
ditional Volendam costume, in
cluding colorful blouses, high-
peaked caps and wooden shoes.
Appearing in native garb were
Mr. and Mrs. Reynold J. Koo-
mans, of West Englewood, N. J.,
formerly of Rotterdam; their
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wilmer
Koomans, and her two children,
Hans, eight, and Joan, four;
their son-in-law, Peter Waas
dorp, of Tenafly, N. J., and his
two children, Peter jr., eight,
and John, four.
