HERALD TRIBUNE Spellman Gives $10,000 Cheek To Dutch Relief Ffe' im Newly FormedOrganization CanOpeii 'but a Fraction' of Donations Pouring In Francis Cardinal Spellman yes terday presented a check for $10,000 to Holland Flood Relief, Inc., the organization formed Thursday to help rebuild dikes, homes and public utilities in the flood-stricken areas of the Neth erlands, it was announced yester day. I Cardinal Spellman's gift was ac cepted by Baron J. A. DeVos vanij iSteenwijk, consul general of the Netherlands in New York, at the Cardinal's office, 452 Madison Ave. George P. Montgomery, vice- president of the Seamen's Bank for Savings, 74 Wall St., and treas urer of Holland Flood Relief, Inc., announced the organization re ceived so many donations yester day that a staff of twelve bank' employees were able to open "but ]a fraction." He said a first count could not be expected until Mon day when the agency will open its own office at 72 Wall St. Mr. Montgomery said among the gifts received yesterday were checks for $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500. He did not name the con- i tributors. The Dutch Consulate at 10 Rockefeller Plaza reported it re- fceived another four truckloads of clothing yesterday, as well as $3,000 for transfer to Holland Flood Relief, Inc. The Holland-America Line, 29 Broadway, announced that an 8,900-cubic foot locker at the com pany's pier in Hoboken, N. J., was overflowing with wearing apparel. L^tore donations were excepted. The line had offered to ship relief packages for distribution through the Netherlands Red Cross free of charge if packaged in strong wooden boxes or cartons and de livered to the line's pier in Hoboken.
