Death Toll Reaches 1,941 AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands, Feb. 6 US) The death toll from last week-end's floods rose today to 1,941. The Netherlands counted 1,372 dead, Britain 546 and Bel gium 23. In the reconstruction work, United States Army engineers are using a novel emergency technique to repair some of the worst dike breaches in Brabant Province. The 1,800 men of the Thirty-ninth En gineer Construction Group, sent into Dettlingen, Germany, are using the Bailey bridges as the base for fixing the longer gaps torn by the storm. These temporary, prefabricated sectional spans are thrown across and weighted with stones and sand. Then the whole bridge, with'its load of filling, is dropped into the gap by setting off explosive charges at the ends.
