Mayor Hyncs today officially
adopted Brouwershaven, Holland,
the stricken town for which The
Traveler is raising funds.
The text of the mayor's formal
declaration, issued at City Hall,
follows
"Whereas, the town of Brouwer
shaven on the island of Schouwen,
Holland, was stricken by devas
tating floods; and
"Whereas, the inhabitants of
that town sorely need funds to re
build their dikes and restore their
homes, schools and churches; and
"Whereas, they have appealed
to the generous people of Boston,
who have never turned' their
backs on an appeal for charity;
"Now, therefore, I, John B.
Hynes, mayor of the cify-of Bos
ton, declare that the town of
Brouwershaven, Holland, be and
hereby is 'adopted' by the citizens
of the city of Boston, and I call
upon the people of Boston, and
Greater Boston, to once again
demonstrate the charity which is
within their hearts.
"The chairman of the commit
tee is Fire Commissioner Michael
T. Kelleher.
"Whatever funds you can afford
for this most humane purpose
should be sent to the Boston Trav
eler Flood Relief Fund, 80 Mason
street, Boston.
"Please help as promptly as you
can and prior to March 10th.
Whatever you can give will be
appreciated by those who need our
help so much."
