Het succes in 1988 kwam voor
Reitsma trouwens ook weer niet
helemaal uit de lucht vallen. „Het
mooie in dit werk zijn de momen
ten dat je een overwinning aan
voelt komen. Maar dan moet het
nog wél gebeuren. Toen de feest
vreugde ontstond, heb ik wel een
beetje meegevierd. Hoe? Niet bo
venmatig. Een beetje brullen, dat
was het wel. Na de wedstrijd heb
ik mijn spullen gepakt, in de we
tenschap dat collega's alweer bezig
waren met de follow up van het
succes van Oranje."
De huidige selectie betitelt Reits
ma, die sinds 2002 niet meer in
dienst is van de NOS, maar wel
freelancewerk verricht, als 'een be
hoorlijk stel', om in de stijl te blij
ven van zijn klassieke uitspraak.
„Het is de vraag of er iets zal ont
staan, dat moet in de loop van een
toernooi groeien. Als we bij de laat
ste vier komen, dan kan er van al
les gebeuren. Het is een cliché,
maar zo is het wel. Je hebt dat ex
traatje nodig. Of dat nu op het ge
bied van geluk is of in het spel."
Zeifis hij er niet bij in Zwitserland
en Oostenrijk. „Bij het EK 2004 en
de Olympische spelen was ik ook
niet. De kriebel begon weer bij het
WK 2006, daar ben ik weer wel ge
weest. Maar het went hoor. De be
slissing te stoppen heb ik in goed
overleg met mezelf genomen. Le
ven zonder grote toernooien is
echt geen ramp! Ik kijk wel op tv.
Daarna begint de toekomst weer."
