Dit tot afgrijzen van taaldeskundi
gen, die vinden dat de straattaal
zorgt voor verpaupering van de
Nederlandse taal. De steeds vaker
gesproken variant werd denigre
rend smurfentaai genoemd, totdat
deskundige René Appel eind jaren
negentig de term straattaal intro
duceerde. Hij concludeerde in een
onderzoek dat het spreken van
straattaal inmiddels positief gerela
teerd is aan de beheersing van het
Nederlands en dat jongeren niet
voor andere woorden kiezen uit
gebrek, maar uit de creatieve be
hoefte om iets nieuws te proberen.
