Van Dis spreekt onderweg met
mensen van alle rangen en stan
den. De serie bevat weinig beelden
van de mooie natuur in zuidelijk
Afrika. „Geloof me, 99 procent
van de Afrikanen heeft nog nooit
een olifant gezien. Natuur laten
we niet zien, behalve dan wat beel
den als we langs de wegen jakke
ren", vertelt Van Dis, die onder
weg alleen maar hamburgers en
kippenpootjes in Amerikaanse fast
foodketens at.
Tijdens de lange reis heeft hij zich
nooit bedreigd gevoeld. „Maar ik
ben niet gek, je zult mij 's avonds
na tienen niet zien lopen in een
duistere wijk zonder verlichting."
