Aart Staartjes speelt circusdirec
teur Willy Waltz is sluw en on
voorspelbaar, pathetisch, gedre
ven en keihard wanneer het
over zijn bedrijf gaat, maar
evengoed sentimenteel tot op
het bot.
Met zijn Internationaal Wereld
circus Willy Waltz reist hij door
het land. Zijn vaste gevolg be
staat uit zijn drie zonen (ge
speeld door Theo Maassen, Bar
ry Atsma en Koen Wouterse),
schoondochter en kleinkinde
ren, zijn ex-vrouw en zijn jonge
echtgenote, plus haar minnaar,
de Russische leeuwentemmer en

Het armlastige zootje schuift
langzaam richting afgrond, al
doet Waltz er alles aan om de
boel bij elkaar te houden. Maar
als hij ziek wordt, brokkelt de
door hem opgebouwde wereld
in grote snelheid af.
Compliment
De serie van Robert Alberdingk
Thijm (De Daltons, Dunya en
Desie) en regisseur Norbert Ter
Hall (Mevrouw de Minister) is
in de pers al briljant genoemd
nog voor er één aflevering op de
buis is geweest. En na de specia
le presentatie voor cast en crew
stond één van de circusmensen
die Alberdingk Thijm in de re-
searchfase sprak, snikkend in
de hal: 'Dit was mijn leven!' Dat
was het grootste compliment, al
dus de schrijver.
Hij omschrijft de reeks als een
koningsdrama. „Deze familie
vertoont veel overeenkomsten
met het koningshuis. De opvol
gingskwestie is een heet hang
ijzer, evenals het toetreden van
burgermeisjes in de familie."
Voor inspiratie hoefde hij dan
ook niet ver te zoeken. „Ik las
dat laatste interview met Bem-
hard, dat postuum verscheen.
Daarin eindigde hij bijna elke
zin met: basta! Ik dacht: dat is
Willy Waltz! Een dictator, die al
les wil doen om het mysterie in
stand te houden. Maar eigenlijk
is hij heel eenzaam, hij kan met
niemand praten over wat hem

wisten Ter Hall en Alberdingk
Thijm dat zij Aart Staartjes wil
den hebben voor de rol van pa
ter familias.
In Ter Halls serie Mevrouw de
Minister speelde hij al een fan
tastische rol als minister van Fi
nanciën. „Bovendien is het een
fysieke serie, vol rauwheid. We
konden geen acteurs gebruiken
die alleen maar mooi in beeld
willen komen", vertelt de regis
seur. „Aart wordt soms weinig
flatteus in beeld gebracht. Dat
maakt het ook zo levensecht."

LOS ANGELES - Kevin Federline, de bijna ex-man van Brit
ney Spears, wil de voogdij over de twee kinderen van het

LOS ANGELES - Componist van filmmuziek Basil Poledou
ris is woensdag in Los Angeles overleden. De componist
stond vooral bekend om krachtige muziek voor actiefilms.
Hij werd 61 jaar.
Poledouris maakte onder meer muziek voor films waar Ar
nold Schwarzenegger als acteur mee doorbrak. Verder com
poneerde hij voor films als The Blue Lagoon en Paul Verhoe-
