Zij is een van de vijf ex-prosti-
tuees die in Talpa's nieuwe reali-
ty-serie Uit het leven het roer
omgooien door het opzetten van
een eetcafé aan de Overtoom in
hartje Amsterdam. Uiteraard
zijn de camera's nadrukkelijk
aanwezig, zo meldt ook het
briefje op de voordeur, bestemd
voor onwetende gasten. Erna,
Reina, Sandra, Sabrina en Lucy
hebben drie maanden de tijd om
de zaak tot een financieel succes
te maken. Als dat lukt, mogen
ze restaurant Uit het Leven sa
men pachten.

voetlicht konden brengen. Uit
het leven won de tv-wedstrijd
niet, maar mocht uiteindelijke
toch uitgevoerd worden.
Erna was overigens niet in die
eerste uitzending te zien. „Ik
wilde toen niet meedoen, omdat
mijn ouders niet wisten dat ik in
de prostitutie zat. Ik woon in
een klein dorp en wilde ze dat
niet aandoen." Maar na veel
wikken en wegen hakte ze voor
zichzelf de knoop door. Haar
ouders zijn er inmiddels van op
de hoogte dat ze de afgelopen
vijftien jaar niet, zoals ze altijd
vertelde, achter de bar van een
illegaal casino werkte.

„Als mensen informeerden, ver
telde ik dat er veel maffia
kwam, vandaar al die hoge
fooien. En als ze dan nog door
vroegen, zei ik dat ik niets kon
zeggen vanwege mijn beroepsge
heim." Zelf noemt Erna zich, in

stopt met het werk dat ze al van
af haar 27ste volhield. Met pijn
in het hart. „Ik genoot van mijn
vak." De horeca is dan ook be
hoorlijk afkicken. Achter de bar
werken is wel leuk, maar die
vroege keukendienst, van drie
tot tien uur, vindt de geboren
nachtvlinder maar niks. En
hard werken is het ook. „Ik ben
ook geen achttien meer!
Ze heeft haar voormalige be
roep dan ook niet met volle over
tuiging opgegeven. „Voor mij
was het eigenlijk puur een finan
ciële reden: de inkomsten liepen
terug. Zoals ik al zei, je wordt
een dagje ouder."
Erna werkte in chique bordelen
en voor een dure escortservice.
Twee keer eerder stopte ze, één
keer omdat ze verliefd werd, en
één keer probeerde ze het een
tijdje als telefoniste. Maar ze is
nu eenmaal geen van negen tot
vijf mens, zo zegt ze zelf.GPD

LONDEN - De film The Constant Gardener, naar een boek
van John le Carré, is de grote favoriet voor het binnenslepen
van de Bafta's, de Britse tegenhanger van de Oscars. De film
kreeg deze week niet minder dan tien nominaties, onder meer
voor beste film, beste acteur in de persoon van Ralph Fiennes
en beste actrice (Rachel Weisz, die maandag al een Golden
Globe won).
Met elk negen nominaties staan het homo-cowboydrama Bro-
keback Mountain en Crash, dat sociale misstanden in het he
dendaagse Amerika schetst, op de tweede plaats. Zes nomina
ties waren er voor Good Night, And Good Luck, Memoirs Of
A Geisha en Pride Prejudice. George Clooney moet met
zichzelf concurreren als de Bafta's op 19 februari worden toe
gekend. Hij is twee keer genomineerd voor de beste mannelij
ke bijrol in zowel Syriana als Good Night, And Good Luck.

HILVERSUM - Acteur, fotomodel en evenementenorganisa
tor Arie Boomsma gaat een tv-programma presenteren voor
de Evangelische Omroep (EO). Vanaf 17 maart is hij er weke
lijks te zien met 'Een betere buurt' (22.30 uur, Ned. 1). Van
het programma komen elf afleveringen op de buis.
In Een betere buurt gaan telkens zes gelovige studenten pro
beren de leefbaarheid van een wijk in Rotterdam te vergro
ten. Ze doen dat samen met de buurtbewoners door bijvoor
beeld huizen en straten op te knappen en buurtcommissies

ARNHEM - Gerard Joling en Gordon geven een optreden tij
dens het Giga Piraten Festijn op 17 maart in het Gelredome
in Arnhem. De twee heren zijn toegevoegd aan een lange lijst
artiesten die optreden, zoals Jan Smit, Marianne Weber en
Jannes.
Het Giga Piraten Festijn is het eerste concert in een reeks
van veertien grote en kleinere optredens vanaf maart. Pira
tenmuziek is met name in het oosten en noorden van het land
