District Group Asks
Funds ior Relief of
Flooded Holland
A group of Washington resi
dents have formed a special com
mittee to raise funds for relief
of The Netherlands, hard hit by
storms and floods in the past
few days.
Clarence Aspinwall, chairman
of the Washington Chapter of
the Netherlands-America Foun- j
dation. said his organization is i
sponsoring the committee. It
will be headed by Mrs. Robert i
G. Ervin.
The Netherlands - America
Foundation supplied help to The
Netherlands after World War II
and its recent activity has been
in sponsoring post-graduate
students from that country at
American universities.
To Express Sympathy.
"A flreat many people sym
pathize with the plight of the
people in Holland," Mr. Aspin
wall said. "We felt there should
be some way for that sympathy
to be expressed."
Named to the committee so
far have been Walter Lippman,
newspaper columnist; Carroll
Glover, vice president of the
Riggs National Bank; Mrs. John
M. Begg, G. Lloyd Roberts, Win-
slow Van Devanter, treasurer of
the Netherlands-American Foun
dation and Rear Admiral A. H.
Van Keuren, U. S. N., retired.
Contributions Accepted.
Contributions may be sent to
Mr. Van Devanter at his office
in the American Security
Trust Building or to the Nether
lands-America Foundation office
at 1140 Fifteenth street N.W.
The foundation office is at the
Security Storage Co., which Mr.
Aspinwall heads.
Mr. Aspinwall said the relief
committee is purely a local one,
although there is a move to
form a national relief committee
underway.
