Maar de film is minstens zo be
faamd door de spectaculaire ach
tervolgingsscènes, die, zoals het
hoort in politiefilms, gepaard gin
gen met talloze botsingen en
loeiende zwaailichten. Een van de
ongelukken tijdens die achtervol
ging was niet in scène gezet. Een
man, geen acteur en geen figurant,
was onderweg naar zijn werk. Hij
wist niet dat een paar straten ver
derop een achtervolgingsscène ge
filmd werd. Ongewild en onge
pland belandde de man midden in
de botsing. De man kwam er zon
der kleerscheuren vanaf en de pro
ducenten van de film hebben de
rekening van de garage keurig be
taald. Vanwege het realistische ge
halte besloot Friedkin de scène
toch op te nemen in de film.
